Jersey Shore Juried Art Show

This past week, I went to see the Jersey Shore Juried Art Show at the Boatworks in Belmar. The exhibit is up until May 3 - so hurry if you want to see some serious local talent. The Boatworks is located under the bridge in Belmar is a pretty stand alone building.

Some of the highlights of the show were Ellen Martin's provocative El Silencio was done various hues of purple. This grouping evoked thoughts of silent, cool evenings.

Ellen Martin's El Silencio

Mary Jo Austin's Lifegaurds on Duty, masterfully painted.

Karen Overbye's Jersey Marsh was an abstract interpretation of places so familiar to those who love the Jersey shore.

One of my favorite places is Cattus Island. Sven Widen's painting of the place captured the tall linear quality of the trees and the light with precision.

Sandy Taylor's abstract acrylic painting, Cross Country, is a brilliant arrangement of strong color and textures.

There was a glass piece done by Yvonne Yaar.

Some notable photographs-

Award winning image created by Gary Dates, iPad App.

Vince Matulewich's Safe Harbor-Belford

Kurt Apfelbaum's Misty Morning-

A figurative watercolor worth mentioning is Mona Kirk's The Gossippers-

This piece reminded me of Cecilia Beaux's Breton Women done just updated in today's clothing.

If you have a chance, please visit this show. You will not be disappointed.
